Fourth Annual TCI Festival of the Wagging Tails

Proud dog owners and their faithful four-legged friends took to Turtle Cove Marina in Providenciales on Saturday to take part in the infamous Festival of the Wagging Tails.
The fourth annual dog show saw hundreds of people turn out to enjoy food, drinks, fun and games - and the chance to watch pets and their owners battle for top prizes.
The TCSPCA runs the event each year to raise money for animals in need of care. This year fundraising efforts focused on setting up a low cost spay and neuter facility in Providenciales.
Terry Selver, president of the TCSPCA, said the goal of the venture is to decrease the cost of surgery and allow more pet owners the opportunity to neuter their animals. Read more

Dog Registration for TCI

In a thrust to establish a proper canine management system in the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Environmental Health Department is embarking on a drive to have all dogs in the country registered.
According to Dexter Gordon of the Animal Management Unit of the Environmental Deparment, the dogs being targeted are those residing permanently in the country and not those brought in on short visits by guests.

TCI to ship away wild animals
The feral animal problem now being experienced on the islands of Grand Turk, Salt Cay and South Caicos should soon be a thing of the past, as the Government has chiseled a plan to have the majority of those animals shipped to neighbouring Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic for agriculture purposes. Passports system for dogs to be introduced
The Ministry of Health and Human Services will be moving to introduce a pet passport system, as part of a thrust to stem the threat of importing animal diseases such as rabies in the Turks and Caicos Islands, especially from countries where those diseases are rampant. The proposed measure was announce by Minister of Health and Human Services Dr. Lillian Boyce, while addressing reporters at a media conference at the New Media headquarters on Providenciales last week.
